Sync Error

Sync Error

Postby Maxi » Sat Aug 06, 2022 12:40 pm

Hey Ernie,

I tried to sync a deck of mine. But there seemed to be a problem with uploading it to the app server. The following error-message appears:

„Sync finished with error: Single text item too large: SideText: 163530“

I really hope you can help me out with this.

Best wishes!!

Hi Maxi,

My sync won't work when a single card has a lot of text on a side. The error message says it found a side with 163,530 characters (well bytes, which might be half that number of characters). Do you have some really long text? You'll need to shorten that card if you want to use the sync. Sorry for the trouble.

If you don't think you have a card that long, let me know. In this case, I recommend you email me and send me your card text so I can see what you are trying to sync.

Thank you for the quick response!!

Yes, it actually is a really long text... But I would love to make an automatic sync between my iPad and iPhone work.
In the app it says that automatic sync won't be provided with Dropbox. Why is that?

Is there any solution to this problem? Is there a chance to enable automatic sync with Dropbox or iCloud or at least upload cards with long text to the server. I hope there is. It would really help me out.

The dropbox sync might work OK for you, but it's not fully automatic. After studying, the app will export your entire deck to Dropbox when you close the app. This is automatic, though not very efficient for large decks. On your other device, you'll get a sync notification that there is an update in Dropbox you can download. You can then select the deck for download to manually start the update process (Dropbox to app).

You might as well give it a try.

Your case is a very edge case scenario. It's not easy for me to support such long text with the way I store my data on the server, so I haven't programmed support for it, nor do I plan to anytime soon.

Or maybe consider breaking up the text into smaller parts and storing on extra sides or cards.
