Server Problems... ??

Postby johnstonf » Wed Apr 29, 2020 8:59 am

Hi Ernie,

FYI...

Your (VERY HANDY) server is acting weird these days... (overloaded??)
-Often need to try 2-10 times to upload deck
-Today needed to crash out and retry download into FC few times
(finally worked after 5 tries)

Is there a way to put up my own server?

Thanks, Fred

Hi Fred,

Did you try to upload through my website? What happened (error message?) after clicking "upload flashcards" on upload page?

My website does get "service unavailable" error sometimes, but it shouldn't be too common.

Have you considered using Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive?

If you use iOS, your deck code can be a public url to a text file. I don't remember if Excel files work like this. I don't have any such feature on Android. Otherwise, no, I don't have any support for a personal website.

Sorry, i didn't see the email with your response...

yes, i use your website... it's the easiest for sure, for me, when it's working!...

i've gotten 500 type server messages as well as "service unavailable"

I've had better luck lately.

p.s. THANKS for hosting that website, too, and all your hard work!

p.s. do you have an easy / quick way to learn Mandarin?
(My daughter-in-law and grand-daughter are fluent, and her parents are Chinese)

(I'm too old to learn it, but would like to, if i can in a week or two)

"p.s. do you have an easy / quick way to learn Mandarin?"

Ha ha, I wish. I'm not very good at learning new languages and it's been extremely difficult, even with a private tutor. I really don't know what's the best way. I personally would buy a Level 1 Mandarin book and start there. And also get an app, and see which you like better. I think a book is good for learning and app good for reinforcing.
