Statistics: Due Date vs Interval

Statistics: Due Date vs Interval

Postby coasterbear » Mon Apr 10, 2023 8:37 am

Hi!

I have a question about the statistics screen.

Under "Cards by Due Date (SR)" I see
Today 12 cards
Tomorrow 11 cards
Wed 20 cards
Thu 13 cards
etc.

But under "by Interval (SR)" I see
≤ 3 days 0 cards
≤ 1 week 5 cards
≤ 2 weeks 15 cards
etc.

It seems to suggest that I have no cards due for the next 3 days, and then five in the 4 days after that, and then ten more in the next week. But, I also have as many as 20 cards due on a single day. Clearly I don't understand the statistics...what am I missing?

Thanks! (and, needless to say, thank you for all the hard work, I love this app!)

Each card has its own interval which is the growing time when it becomes due.
Have a look at one of the due cards. On bottom tap to edit the card and have a look into the statistic of that card. There is also a question mark to describe each field.

Thanks Katja!

Yeah, the "interval" is the time between reviews on a certain card. So if you get a card correct, and the interval becomes 5 days, then you'll see the card again in 5 days.
The first interval will be about 1 day. As you continue to get the card correct, the interval will increase.

Here is basically what you are missing:
Last review + interval = due date

Imagine you have 200 cards. Imagine all your cards have an interval of 5 days. (the "≤ 1 week bucket" ; You've gotten all your cards correct a few times)
This 5 days does not say with a card is due. It only says interval.

You've been studying your 200 cards over many days, and you review maybe 30 each day. So cards are staggered.
They all have same interval, but their due dates are all different because you reviewed them on different days (in our example).

This is a long winded explanation that hopefully helps.

Hi Ernie,
I tried to find https://orangeorapple.com/Flashcards/AboutSR.aspx on http://orangeorapple.com/Flashcards/ but I could not.
Do you like to add this. This a great page describing the learning systems.

Hi Katja,

It's there. Expand the section:
Using the Application > "Card Order Options - Short Term Goal (Leitner) and Spaced Repetition "

I agree it's very hard to find.
This is also in the in-app help.

I'm sure I could improve the website, but I think it's acceptable enough for me to ignore for now.
