I downloaded one list of cards from the website, and can't download a second. I can't even get to the main screen, and I have literally tried every option.

It sounds like you are in full-screen view. In the black study screen, tap near the top of the screen where the title bar would normally appear. This will show the title bar to allow you to get back. Tapping near the top will toggle full screen on/off.
