turn ligatures fi/fl off

is there a way to turn off the ligatures,ie. fi turning to fi
or is this a problem carried on from google sheets?
(which seems impossible to turn off)

I didn't know this term "ligatures". I have a scanning program I use occasionally and the program does this for "fi". It really annoys me and I have no idea why it does this or what the purpose of this would be. (I'm showing off my ignorance here.). Bottom line, I don't think the app is doing anything. I have no idea why or when Google Sheets might do this. It looks OK in Sheets? Can you export to Excel or CSV from Sheets and see how it looks there? My program will have Google export to either CSV or Excel (or forgot which off the top of my head) and I import that. If you want to email me something, I can take a look.

Hello again, the ligatures seem to been font dependant: some fonts automatically change fi to fi / fl to fl others don't
Thus, I managed to get round the problem by choosing a different font

As a side note: this usually does not cause any problems, but with a language like Turkish (which has both a dotted and un-dotted letter i: i and ı) it was at times confusing as the ligature (in some fonts) makes the f join with the dot of the i:
