Missing / truncated text

Hi Ernie, long time no 写!

I am a long time user, on this forum since 2010. I still work with FCDL on a daily basis since, wow, almost ten years! Thank you for making and maintaining such a gem of a flashcard app <3

I regularly convert people to spaced repetition, and of course bootstrap them on FCDL. One friend of mine has recently started to use it on Android to learn English. I helped him to set up his routine with a simple Excel file, nothing fancy:

The layout is:

    - Side 1: T3
    - Side 2: T1, T2, S1
    - Side 3:
    - Side 4:
    - Side 5:

Curiously, after several days, most of the phonetics (T2) ceased to appear on the second side. Moreover, the phonetics of irregular verbs, when it does appear, is truncated. I was not able to reproduce the problem on my iPhone. On his Android, I have tried various tricks (restarting the app, changing the font and the color size, recreating another layout) without any success. This is puzzling. Is this a known bug of the Android version? Could you suggest a workaround ? Thanks in advance.

元宵节快乐!

A.

PS: I have tried to attach an extract of the offending Excel file, but the extensions xlsx and tsv are not allowed. Here is a Dropbox link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gda7lmpnqhvna ... .xlsx?dl=1

Hi Aristide,

Good to hear from you again! Yes, it's been a long time. It's great to hear you are still using to app, and so regularly.

This is a strange one. I have no idea. I downloaded your Excel file on my Android device. I didn't see a pre-made layout, so I created one using "Custom 1". Things look normal to me. After several days... Why would something break after several days? "Most" would cease to appear.... why would some appear and not others. It's all just too strange sounding.

if you haven't already, I'd reinstall the deck and see if that helps.

If the user doesn't have much to lose, you might consider deleting the app and reinstalling. You can restore existing decks by Excel/text, but don't restore database, in case something is wrong with it.

Thanks for the Lantern Festival wishes. It's a cool celebration. Too bad it seems be overshadowed this year by all the virus talk.

Thanks Ernie!

Yes, this virus story is very annoying and troublesome. I have three friends and their family in Hubei, and all my Chinese friends are more or less impacted in their daily life.

I have never ceased to use FCDL to study Chinese, but a a matter of fact the last two years I was a bit overwhelmed by a lot of cards which I didn't know too well. Finally, I excluded all my previous cards, and started from scratch with a new strategy: listen Chinese jokes / transcribe them / split them into sentences (-> two decks in either direction) / split the sentences into words (-> two decks). So, currently, I learn these jokes by heart and use FCDL to reinforce both the sentences and their vocabulary. And it's fun again :)

Next time I see my English-learning friend, I'll try to export his decks with their statistics and uninstall/reinstall FCDL. I will tell you the outcome.

Cheers!
