User Interface Bug (Search UI)

User Interface Bug (Search UI)

I have a bug-report for you.

My setup:
  • iPad 2
  • iOS 5 Beta 7
This bug is easily reproducible:
  • open the FCD app
  • open a card deck
  • click on the bottom-right icon to see the list of cards
  • click on search field with magnifying glass, keyboard appears
  • click on hide keyboard button, the most bottom-right button on the keyboard
  • half of the screen remains empty, which is the bug

I've tried it also on my colleague's iPad 2 with iOS 4.3.5 and the bug is present there too.

Yet another 2 small UI/UX findings:
  • When trying to enter browse mode when viewing a summary page, there is that odd message: Browse mode cannot be set when viewing summary page. Oh my, why is that? Am I missing some deeper idea behind it?
  • In the Dock Settings screen, there is a button named TTS. Wouldn't it be better to name it Text To Speech? Basically you need to go to help just to find out what's going on because even inside of TTS settings it's just the acronym everywhere. And the help is even deeper, in TTS > Gear > Question Mark, which is just wrong. I suggest to rename the button to Text To Speech and move Re-download Sounds and help (question mark) to the main TTS screen. Just my two cents on usability.
Keep up the good work! Your app rocks!

I'll consider renaming to "Text to Speech". Yes, this may be better.
Ok, thanks for the ideas. The basic reasoning for much of what you mention is just keeping the screens less cluttered. That sometimes means it's more difficult to get to a seldom used features.

Thanks a lot!

P.S. I wasn't using TTS for quite a long time because it didn't pop up in my mind that it's Text To Speech. I am sure it will help at least a small bunch of people (especially non-natives) in the future.

Have a beautiful day, Ernie! :)

FYI, I already submitted by next update to Apple, so the "Text to Speech" change will probably be in the update after that.
