TTS & Egyptian Arabic

TTS & Egyptian Arabic

Postby sdiebes » Thu Feb 05, 2026 8:18 am

Hi, is there any way to get the egyptian arabic dialect in the app? I've only seen "Arabic" which doesn't pronounce the words correctly at all.

There are sources for TTS:
Amazon Polly - you will download .mp3 sounds
iOS Siri or Android built in TTS

Arabic should exist for both of these. Have you tried both? But I think there will only be one option for dialect for each option. Try the two different sources. I would not have any other options.

If you used a different TTS program, the app might be able to utilize their TTS. These would likely be a paid product. Acapella app has TTS voices for example on Android. I think the app would be able to use these. If you have a TTS product like Acapella in mind and want to know if it would work with my app, let me know and I can look into it further.

Thanks so much for your quick response. Yeah I tried Arabic in both of those - it is the "fusha" or standard arabic - which nobody really speaks! Unfortunately that is the most common type of arabic in the TTS programs. There are many dialects like the egyptian, levantine etc. I found a great TTS on ElevenLabs which speaks Egyptian. I'll have to look into that more to see if we can export it somehow.

I asked Google AI:
"ElevenLabs for android, can this be set as system TTS engine"
Answer was: No.

So I don't think this is going to be an option to use in external apps like Flashcards Deluxe.
